Google patents data centre on a truck

Google has had a patent granted for a data centre in a shipping container. Admittedly, this might not have interested us so much had we not been deeply immersed in Season 2 of The Wire, which has made all shipping-container-related news fascinating, but it’s still a reminder that there’s some serious hardware thinking behind Google’s little innovations (even if they are probably Communists (allegedly)).

The mobile data centre would have its own power and cooling systems, while the standardized container format would mean it could be transported easily by truck (or presumably ship). Look forward to Knight Rider-style trucks full of technology speeding around the US, each with its own mysterious white-suited genius and talking car – the Google Industries Two Thousand (or GITT), perhaps?
