Google Nexus 5 new specs and launch date rumours

Google’s highly anticipated Nexus 5 Android smartphone was briefly listed on Google’s Play Store ahead of its expected release date before being quickly taken down. This brief listing fueled already rife speculations and rumours about the forthcoming Nexus. We highligt the latest romours making the rounds to keep you abreast of what you can expect when the Google Nexus 5 finally launches.

Nexus 5 release date

The forthcoming Google Nexus 5 will succeed the popular Nexus 4 Android smartphone that was created in partnership with LG to meet consumer need for a high-end smartphone sold at an affordable price. The 16GB version of the Nexus 5 that listed briefly on Google’s Play Store had a US price tag of $349 (£215), which is not exactly affordable by some people’s standards.

Anyway, product shots of the Nexus 5 confirmed a series of previous leaks, including a redesigned Gmail icon and replacement of the default Android SMS app. Perhaps to allay the intense buzz surrounding the Nexus 5 launch after the brief listing on Google’s Play Store, Google has sent out an invitation to a press event on October 24, 2013. The press invite reads: "Join us for a night out with Google Play."

Google does not expressly state which product will be launched at its October 24, 2013 event, but it is widely thought the Android 4.4 KitKat, Nexus 10 2 and Nexus 5 will be unveiled at the event. It was previously speculated that the Nexus 5 would be unveiled on October 15, but rumour has it that the event was postponed due to the recent US government shutdown.

Nexus 5 rumoured specs

It is expected the mid-to-high-range Google Nexus 5 smartphone will run on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor chip with 2 or 3GB RAM and feature a 5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 resolution using Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology.

It will also pack a 2700mAh battery, the Adreno 330 GPU and have a 13 megapixel camera with unique shooting features, as well as an additional 2 megapixel front-facing camera. The powerful device is also rumoured to be built by LG.
