Google Maps widget out for your browser

There’s a new widget out for the ever-useful Google Maps, one that will make you stop and think about what maps are really for. Well OK, maybe it won’t, but it will make you stop and go ‘cool’. And isn’t that what gadgets and technology is really for?

If you’ve ever used Google Maps on your mobile you’ll no doubt already be familiar with the blue dot that marks your location, but now that little detail is being rolled out for use on your computer as well, meaning you can use My Location through Firefox or Google Chrome (only losers use IE, yeah?), even without GPS.

Go over to Google Maps now and click the white button in the top left hand corner. It should turn blue, and when it does it will try and locate you, using either WiFi access points near you or your IP address. It’s pretty cool.
