Google Earth helping thieves

Google Earth has brought the wrath of Humberside Police onto it today, after it was revealed that expensive fish have been nicked thanks to the site.

A spate of exotic koi carp thefts have been attributed to criminals using Google Earth to spot things worthy of pinching, and not just nice sea beasts; expensive cars have been targeted and lead roofs. But Google doesn't want to take the rap for the dastardly deeds.

'Google Earth is built from information that is available worldwide from a wide range of both commercial and public sources,' said a spokesperson. 'Criminals could use maps, phones and getaway cars but no one would argue that these technologies are responsible for the crime itself, that responsibility lies with the perpetrator.'
