Google branches out into phone technology

Heard of Google Voice? No, neither had we until today, but apparently it's going to change the way we deal with our phones.

The search engine monolith have bought, rebranded and reconfigured the software of Grand Central, according to T3. With the new Google Voice, you have one number for all your phone numbers and acts as a hub for all your messages, storing voicemail and diverting calls to whatever number you want. Best of all though, the software converts all the voicemail into text as well, which means you can flip through your messages like they're emails. Pretty nifty eh? It also has a potentially Skype busting cheap international calls rate and the ability to send and receive texts, all through your browser.

Now we know this might look like supernatural jiggery pokery, but here's a video to show you how it works.
