GoldenEye hopes smashed

Gamers of a certain age will remember the joy that could be had with Nintendo’s creaky old N64 and a copy of first-person shooter classic GoldenEye. Few things were more fun that giving Oddjob a face full of lead with the golden gun, or taking James Bond out in a hail of machine gun fire. The smarmy cocktail swilling beaut.

Ever since birth of widespread online console gaming and broadband internet, fans have been begging developer Rare to get the game out for a run on the current generation of consoles, so that fans could play each other online and have all kinds of multiplayer fun, while thinning their chances of getting a girlfriend further.

However, they have now confirmed that the game will not being appearing on any of the current gen’s download services. Booo.

‘Fate was against us that day,' said a spokesman for Rare. 'Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury.

‘I suspect we're long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know. Stranger things have happened... somewhere... probably.’ It’s not all bad news though, as the even better Perfect Dark will be on Xbox Live this winter. Woo!
