French pilot fails in pedal-powered Channel crossing
French pilot Stephane Rousson’s attempt to cross the English Channel in a pedal-powered balloon ended in failure yesterday due to adverse wind conditions.
The 39-year-old set off from the Kent coast yesterday morning at 8am hoping to reach Calais in just over five hours. It was his second attempt to become the first person to cross the Channel on a pedal-powered blimp.
Unfortunately for the pilot and inventor, the wind turned half-way through the journey and he had to abandon the crossing. Rousson’s aborted attempt comes just days after Swiss pilot Yves Rossy successfully crossed the Channel on a jetpack.
Sadly for Rousson it may have been his last chance to achieve his goal as he has no money left after running up a lot of debt in the construction of his flying machine.
