
Sony BMG has become the latest music industry giant to allow tracks to be released without copyright protection. The label, whose artists include Beyoncé and Foo Fighters, will release DRM-free tracks exclusively on Amazon, giving the online retailer an advantage over industry leader iTunes.
Over 3 million tracks will be available on the Amazon MP3 store – but it’s only available in the US at the moment. We think it’s obvious that this is the way the industry’s going (there’s a statement that will make us look silly in six months’ time), though, so we shouldn’t have long to wait over here…
