Mozilla has released an experimental geolocation add-on for their internet browser Firefox. The new technology, called Geode, allows users to find information such as good restaurants and specific shops based on their current location.
Using technology from Skyhook, Geode calculates the location of your computer based on the wireless network being utilised. It is believed to have an accuracy of up to 10 metres.
While there may be concerns over privacy issues, the user has control over how much geolocation information they give. The new technology looks set to be integrated into Mozilla’s Firefox 3.1 browser.
