Facebox now Netlog, user base in stealth growth
I got an email the other day from a non-tech friend inviting me to join her on Facebox. That, combined with my father's surprise question today of "should I get Skype" has started me thinking...this whole growth of broadband and whatnot in the UK is really starting to have an effect on the kinds of services people are signing up to.
It's one thing reading stats and comments from industry gurus - totally another getting real world feedback from friends and family who aren't usually webbed out.
So, back to Facebox. Or what was once Facebox, now Netlog. After garnering some readies from venture capitalists Index, Atomico and TAG, the social networking site for European youth appears to be emerging, stealth submarine style, from relative press obscurity back into the limelight. And what a limelight it's turning out to be. Now for the stats. Netlog actually has 18.4 million members in 8 languages. More than Bebo. Who'd have thought?
The blurb from their site: "On Netlog, members can create their own web page, extend their social network, publish their music playlists, share photos and videos, post blogs, join groups called ‘clans’ and much more."
The company is Belgium based, which puts it in an excellent position for entertaining industry folks with top quality chocolate, awesome beers and opulent dining experiences. Looking forward to seeing Netlog developing further after its cash injection.
Put their blog on your Excite MIX page if you're interested in keeping up to date with their EuroYouth socialising antics.
