Facebook set to overtake MySpace in the U.S.

Facebook is closing the gap on MySpace to be the biggest social networking site in the U.S. Mark Zuckerburg's brain child already became the world's No.1 social network last April just four years after its launch. However, Facebook still lags behind rival MySpace stateside.

MySpace boasted 20m more users than Facebook at the turn of the year, but that figure has been slashed to just 9.1m in the first four months of 2009. TechCrunch now predicts that Facebook will leapfrog its rival in the U.S. sometime in the next three months.

In contrast, MySpace is haemorrhaging users: it's down a staggering 5.8m visitors compared to this time last year. Does it spell the beginning of the end for MySpace? Or more to the point, can you still remember your MySpace password?
