Facebook Location

With internet safety being high on the news agenda at the moment - particularly concerning Facebook, the social networking giant has today unveiled plans to add a friend location finder function to their site.

Friend finder functions are already commonplace on the web with the likes of Google Latitude and Foursquare, but according to sources at the New York Times Facebook want to capatilise on the idea after users demanded the function. To adhere to their much publicized privacy policy Facebook users will have to opt-in for the function personally. This should cut down the chances of any old internet perv finding out exactly where you are, as well as what you’re up to.

At this stage it’s all hearsay. We’ll have to wait to wait until Facebook’s F8 conference in April to see if 1984 becomes a reality, or in this case, a virtual reality.
