EA show off FIFA 12's Impact Engine

EA are going big on the new Impact Engine, which is to play a massive part in FIFA 12. As we have already seen, the engine will see players reacting to contact depending entirely on how and where it impacts the body. This is supposed to make the gameplay more realistic, although we’re not entirely sure how a player falling differently will make that much difference – unless it also means that you can skip past tackles and keep going without stumbling like a three-legged goat.

The key thing for the latest edition of the game is to end the automatic superiority of big, physically powerful teams, who can get away with extremely aggressive tackling and off the ball barging without sanction from the referee. If the new Impact Engine does that, then we’ll be very happy; if not, then it’s nothing more than polishing a turd. Sort it out, EA.
