EA and Wii U, in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

We don't want to get any hopes up, but we're starting to get pretty excited about Nintendo's upcoming Wii U. The Wii had some great games made by Nintendo, but was always a bit lacking on the third-party department. The Wii wasn't powerful enough for many developers, so lots of the best games were limited to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

But the signs are that won't be the case with the more powerful Wii U. Electronic Arts just became the latest big games developer to express their enthusiasm about the new console.

'We were really blown away by the unique innovation that Nintendo brings with the Wii U controller on a high-performance machine," EA Games President Frank Gibeau told GamesIndustry.biz, CNET reports. 'The ability to do HD graphics and access game experiences in a completely novel way and a way that's never been seen before, it really struck our fancy.

'We were excited by what Nintendo presented to us, we thought about it, and it fits well with what we're trying to do with our franchises like FIFA and Madden and Battlefield.'

Hear that? That's the sound of Nintendo jumping for joy - and us, too...
