An Introduction to Double DIN Car Stereo Systems

If you spend a great deal of time in your car, you will probably want to have a decent in-car entertainment system installed. This is one of the things that is most often overlooked when buying a new car, and it is hardly surprising considering the much higher priorities such as fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

There are many types of car stereo systems available to suit a wide range of budgets. Some cars have a double DIN car stereo as opposed to the standard and far more common single DIN car stereo systems. A double DIN car stereo is twice the height of a standard one, providing a great deal more room for things such as a screen and other extra features.

Many cars, especially some older ones, are not compatible with a double DIN car stereo system, in which case you simply won’t be able to install one. If, however, your car has space for one, then you can upgrade it with a powerful modern and fully-featured in-car entertainment system. Many double DIN car stereo units provide DVD and TV functionality and a lot more.

Be aware that, when you purchase a car stereo system, that you may consider upgrading or replacing the speaker system as well. After all, there is little point in having all of the functionality afforded by a double DIN car stereo system when you have poor quality standard speakers installed in the car. If you are overhauling the entire system, be aware that speaker systems will cost a lot extra. You’ll also need cabling and, unless you’re comfortable doing it yourself, a professional installation.
