Our favourite desktop computers

The term desktop literally means desk top computers. A computer that is suited to a fairly large space on a desk. This is important because if you are cramped for space then a laptop would be a better choice.

Laptops are so powerful nowadays they can keep up with mid-range desktops no problems. So be sure that you really do need a pretty powerful machine before you go for a desktop computer.

The main uses for personal computers at the moment are business, home, media/graphics/design and games. A home PC was a must-have before, but with laptops getting so good there really is no need to get a huge desktop to surf the internet. For this reason, we will just cover the other three areas.

Business: The Acer Veriton VM670G-UQ9501C is the best of the bunch here. A business computer needs to be able to run a lot of programs at the same time without freezing and crashing. This is the perfect corporate machine. In its most basic form it comes with 4 GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1333 MHz. You can basically pick the best suited processor and it comes with up to 1.5TB hard drive. What more could you need really?

Media/Graphics/Design: iMac all the way! You will have to go with whatever you can afford as iMac's get pretty expensive. The good news is that even the lower end ones are really top notch. They will handle anything you could need to do within these fields with ease. iMacs are super speedy and everything runs really smooth so these are definitely the best for the job.

Gaming: Gaming is slightly different. While you have great companies like Alienware making fantastic PCs, if you really want to make sure that you get the best, build it yourself. There are websites online where you can literally pick your parts and even build them virtually to make sure everything works. This is the best option for games so be sure to have a look online and see what you come up with.
