Death by Twitter

Police are investigating what has been dubbed as the world’s first ‘Twitter murder’ after a twenty-two year old man from Harlem in New York City, was allegedly shot by his childhood friend. Jameg Blake killed Kwame Dancy after what appeared to be a row on Twitter which boiled out of control.

While the two feuded, sending ever more spiteful messages to each other, Dancy had posted a thinly-veiled threat towards Blake, which read: ‘n***** is lookin for u don't think I won't give up ya address for a price betta chill asap!’ Only hours later he was shot dead with a shotgun blast to the neck. Two days later Blake posted ‘R.I.P. Kwame’ on his account.

The weapon was later found in Central Park along with a spent shell, and police have recovered CCTV footage from the flats where the pair lived of Blake carrying a bag large enough to contain a shotgun.

‘That's not a reason to shoot somebody,’ said Madeline Smith, Dancy’s mother, to the New York Daily News. ‘That's crazy. I don't know what's going on with that Twitter thing.

‘They were good friends, that's the sad part about it,' she continued. ‘Obviously, I didn't know him like I thought I did. I just want to ask him. 'Why? How could you?'

‘He (Kwame) said, 'Mommy, I'm going to be a nurse.' And look at this - we'll never know how far he would have gone. His dream was snatched from him, over foolishness.'
