Company own up to mobile phone popcorn videos

The mystery behind who was responsible for the mobile phone popcorn virals has been solved. Cardo Systems, a Bluetooth retailer, have owned up to releasing the videos as part of a viral-marketing campaign.

The videos, which show different groups of friends making popcorn with their mobile phones, are just the latest in a long line of viral videos which have turned out to be part of a larger advertising strategy. So-called stealth marketing campaigns have targeted sites such as YouTube to advertise everything from jeans to summer blockbusters.

Paris based marketing agency LastFools developed the mobile phone popcorn idea for Cardo Systems and they have been viewed over 4 million times since they were uploaded on May 28. So it's safe to say that Cardo's advertising strategy has been more than successful.
