Christchurch to unleash Barry Manilow on rowdy teenagers

The local council in the New Zealand city of Christchurch have come up with an original way to deter gangs of rowdy teenagers from hanging around the city centre: the music of Barry Manilow.

Christchurch council have decided to pipe big-nosed singer's hits into the city's shopping centres and the surrounding areas. Speaking of the sonic weapon a spokesman for the Central City Business Association told reporters that: "The intention is to change the environment in a positive way... so nobody feels threatened or intimidated. I did not say Barry Manilow is a weapon of mass destruction."

While local teenagers laughed off the idea that Manilow's music could act as a deterrent to their antisocial behaviour they have obviously never heard 'Can't smile without you'.
