Chinese authorities accused of monitoring Skype
According to the Canadian research group, Citizen Lab, China is spying on and censoring messages sent via the popular internet program Skype.
The Toronto based watch dog group claims to have uncovered evidence that the Chinese authorities have been monitoring and storing chat messages sent by Chinese Skype users.
Terms such as ‘Free Tibet’ and ‘democracy’ have allegedly been censored from Skype’s free text service. But a spokesman for the popular internet service has said that the revelations are not new as it was common knowledge that the company which operates Skype in China has the right to block and edit chat messages.
