A review of the Canon Digital Ixus 800 compact digital camera

The Canon Digital Ixus 800 compact digital camera is quite an old camera design, and doesn't really compete with more modern technologies, either in terms of price or function. If you can find one for less than £60 on Ebay.com or Amazon.co.uk, however, it would still be a good bargain. Here are its basic features:

  • 6.0 Megapixels CCD: Takes decent pictures with enough resolution to make photo quality large prints.
  • 4x Optical Zoom: A strong zoom with an inbuilt Image Stabiliser to remove any shaking effects on the photo quality.
  • ISO 800: More image stabilization designed to increase the camera's ability to maintain focus indoors or in dim light without the flash.
  • DIGIC II Processor: Ensures speedy photo processing and quick responsiveness from the camera.
  • 2.5 Inch Display Screen: A reasonably sized display screen for easy viewing and short term editing of your pictures.
  • Program features: Choose from sixteen shooting modes to capture the perfect light and tone for your subject, including modes specially designed for beach and underwater shooting. The different modes can, however, result in heavy blurring if used in the wrong circumstances.
  • Video recording: A decent quality video camera is contained within the Canon Digital Ixus 800 compact digital camera, allowing you to shoot 30 frames per second VGA movies, and 60 frames per second QVGA movies, in small files.
  • Printing facilities: You can connect a Canon Digital Ixus 800 compact digital camera to any printer compatible with Canon Direct Print or PictBridge to print off your photographs immediately.
  • CANON iMAGE GATEWAY: Canon provides 100 megabytes of free online space for you to keep all of your pictures. The Gateway also includes an editing suite.
  • Optional extras: There are a number of accessories available for the Canon Digital Ixus 800 compact digital camera, including a waterproof case, and a High Power Flash HF-DC1.
