Can Halloween mask sales predict the US election result?
After hailing Google Trends as the Nostradamus of our times, the people over at Techcrunch have come up with yet another novel way to try and predict the US Presedential election: Halloween mask sales.
Amazon are keeping track of how many Obama and McCain masks they’ve shifted ahead of Halloween and the results are surprisingly close to the latest political opinion polls.
On Amazon, Barack Obama is on 56% versus McCain’s 44%, while the latest tracker poll is 50-43 in favour of the Illinois Senator. While it’s definitely not an exact science, the Democratic and Republican campaign advisers are sure to go on a spending spree any day now to try and boost their candidates sales ahead Halloween.
