Bumper year for dot com shopping

With a bit of help from the Christmas rush, we’re set to spend £40bn online this year, according to an estimate published today by uSwitch.com. The price comparison site (which, entirely coincidentally, enables customers to compare broadband deals) predicts that over 40% of all shopping will be done online by the year 2020.

uSwitch reckons £14bn of that total will be spent in the run-up to Christmas. Obviously we’re all up for a bit of e-business in general, but if past Christmas shopping experiences are anything to go by then ordering now might be a good plan – unless you want your pressies stuck in an Essex warehouse until February…
