British ISPs block access to Wikipedia

A number of British internet service providers have decided to block access to certain Wikipedia pages over accusations that the popular online encyclopaedia was hosting illegal images of child pornography.

The Internet Watch Foundation, the British web watchdog, blacklisted the Wikipedia entry for German group the Scorpions album Virgin Killers which features a photo of a naked prepubescent girl. According to the Guardian, Virgin Media, O2 and a number of other ISPs have decided to block the page.

The Scorpions' album cover was banned in a large number of countries on its release in 1976 and there also appears to have been a lot of debate about the inclusion of the offending photo amongst Wikipedia editors.
