The cool Kinect hacks keep coming: this time we have a brainbox who’s managed to somehow hack his Kinect so that he can use his own body movements as a remote control. Nifty, if not particularly practical.

The smart alec, who goes by the name Harishankar, has hooked his Kinect up to his Mac mini, which uses OpenNI to detect his skeleton and read particular gestures of his, which are used to change channels, turn up the volume, etc. It then sends the information to USB-UIRT, which is connected to his computer via the USB port and lets it receive and transmit infrared signals to his TV. It’s pretty clever, as you can see if you watch the video below.
