Well, that’s that. After a number of stories suggesting that Blu-ray was shaping up as the winner in the war of the DVD formats, Toshiba has conceded defeat and said that it will stop making equipment for its rival HD-DVD format. It will stop shipping players and recorders to retailers by the end of March.
Speaking from up on the moral high ground, Toshiba said it was “disappointed for the company and more importantly, for the consumer,” but that it had “concluded that a swift decision will best help the market develop”.
Anyone out there lumbered with HD-DVD machines? Suggestions for what to do with them gratefully received….
