Fans of nostril hair, puss filled spots and bloodshot retinas were celebrating today after the BBC announced that they are to launch a brand new channel, BBC One HD, ready to be viewed from the comfort of you own sofas as soon as this autumn.

The new channel intends on showing big shows such as Match Of The Day, Eastenders, Q.I., The Apprentice, A Question Of Sport and Blue Peter in high definition, with plans to film everything on BBC One in HD by 2012.

The new channel will be available on Freeview HD, Sky HD, Virgin Media and Freesat, but don’t panic if you don't have any of these sources or indeed an HD ready TV because BBC One as you currently receive it will run as normal alongside its HD bigger and brighter new brother. You just won’t be able to see those nostril hairs, unfortunately.
