Testing the Aprilia Electric Bike

One of the latest crazes to hit city dwelling people is reducing our "carbon footprints". With this in mind, more and more people are cycling to work in the mornings. The Aprilia electric bike can make this a much more pleasant experience.

The Aprilia electric bike is a little bit of a technological marvel. Using sensors placed in the pedals and the wheels, it can tell exactly how much force you are exerting to go forward and it adjusts how much of an "assist" it gives you based on this information.

At first I was sceptical about the idea of a bike that weighs a whopping 27kg, but once you get on the aptly named "Enjoy" it all makes sense. Going up hills is no longer a torture and you are still getting a pretty good work out.

The Aprilia has three settings, depending on what type of terrain you are on - and you will find yourself switching frequently. It has a range, from fully charged, of 40km. Charge it over night and it will be ready for all your inner city travelling the next day.

Priced at around £3000, it is a major investment. But just think about how much it will save you - especially these days with rising petrol prices and increasing city traffic. The Aprilia could pay for itself in only a couple of years.

It also looks like a real bike. This may sound silly, but one of the major barriers for people buying electric bikes is that they look a bit too much like electric bikes. Not so with the Aprilia. It is styled in the same fashion of aggressive mountain bikes and we think it looks great.
