Amazon unveil the Kindle DX

Amazon has announced details of the latest version of its Kindle e-reader which allows users to read newspapers, magazines as well as text documents.

The Kindle DX can read PDF documents and Amazon has also unveiled agreements with three major publishing houses who will produce content for the device. Additionally, the online retail giant has also signed deals with daily newspapers the New York Times, Washington Post and the Boston Globe who will publish material for the Kindle.

Amazon chief executive Jeff Bezos waxed lyrical about the e-reader at the New York launch: "You never have to pan, you never have to zoom, you never have to scroll. You just read." So is it the beginning of the end for the book? Not likely, but the Kindle could hint at the future of the newspaper.
