A step forward

When motion control was announced for games consoles, we were kind of excited at the prospect of a genuinely revolutionary way to play games and interact with media. However, so far we’ve been kind of disappointed with the results; daft party games and uninspired media dominate, even if the Kinect appears to be much more interesting than Move.

However, the two videos below give us hope that we will see some really out there innovation in the future. Some brainboxes at the MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group have hacked into the Kinect and created a system they’re calling DepthJS, which they’ve made work with internet browsing on your computer. It’s really rather interesting indeed, and points to a sleeker, brighter future. Here’s hoping that Microsoft don’t clamp down on it.
